Therapies targeting master regulators in cancer

Edgewood Oncology is focused on developing BTX-A51, a novel small molecule multi-kinase inhibitor that targets key regulators of cancer cell survival and apoptosis. This innovative therapy works by inhibiting proteins such as MDM2 and MCL-1, which are known to suppress the tumor suppressor protein p53, a critical regulator of programmed cell death. By increasing p53 levels and promoting apoptosis, BTX-A51 aims to address significant unmet medical needs in patients with hematologic malignancies, such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and genetically-defined solid tumors, including GATA3-mutant breast cancer. The drug's mechanism of action is designed to leverage the cancer cells' reliance on super enhancers, which drive the expression of oncogenes essential for tumor growth.

The clinical pipeline for BTX-A51 includes ongoing studies targeting various cancer types, with promising early results indicating a favorable safety profile and encouraging efficacy. In particular, the drug is being evaluated in combination with other therapies, such as azacitidine, to enhance its effectiveness against resistant cancer forms.
