Lipum is focused on developing SOL-116, a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to target Bile Salt-Stimulated Lipase (BSSL), a protein implicated in the maintenance of chronic inflammation. BSSL plays a dual role in the inflammatory process; while it aids in the acute phase by recruiting blood cells to combat inflammation, it becomes detrimental in chronic conditions, contributing to sustained inflammation. Lipum's research has demonstrated the significance of BSSL through various animal models, where the administration of anti-BSSL antibodies resulted in reduced disease severity.
