The company has identified a virulence mechanism utilized by various bacteria, specifically the excretion of the protein glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). This protein interacts with toll-like receptor (TLR)-2 on B lymphocytes, leading to an increase in Interleukin (IL)-10 production, which results in systemic immune suppression. To counteract this, Immunethep has designed solutions that utilize specific antibodies to block bacterial GAPDH without affecting human GAPDH, thereby allowing the immune system to effectively target and eliminate invasive bacteria.

To facilitate the development of its immunotherapies, Immunethep has established a Platform of Immunomodulatory Therapies for Infectious Diseases, known as PIT-ID. This platform addresses AMR from three critical perspectives: pathogens, hosts, and immunotherapies.
