AdCOVID is based on the Company’s adenovirus-based intranasal vaccine platform and expresses the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. By utilizing the Company’s proprietary intranasal vaccine technology, it is expected that AdCOVID has the potential to activate multiple arms of the immune system as shown in a recent Phase 2 clinical study with NasoVAX, an influenza vaccine candidate based on the same platform technology. That study showed potent stimulation of mucosal and cellular immune responses in addition to a strong serum antibody response.
AdCOVID was designed to stimulate a broad immune response including both &nbsp;systemic immunity (neutralizing IgG) and local immunity (mucosal IgA, T &nbsp;cells) in the nasal cavity and respiratory tract. Local mucosal &nbsp;immunity is important to block SARS-CoV-2 viral replication in the nose – &nbsp;the point of disease initiation and spread.
