Cell Search has developed the CELLSEARCH® Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) Test, which is the first and only actionable test specifically designed for the detection and enumeration of circulating tumor cells in patients with metastatic breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. This in vitro diagnostic tool identifies CTCs of epithelial origin by targeting specific markers, including CD45-, EpCAM+, and cytokeratins 8, 18+, and/or 19+. The presence of these cells in peripheral blood is clinically significant, as it correlates with decreased progression-free survival and overall survival rates in affected patients. The test serves as an important aid in monitoring disease progression and patient prognosis, and it is recommended that CTC testing be used alongside other clinical assessments, such as imaging and laboratory tests.
