This system is designed to isolate and enrich rare cells, such as circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and trophoblasts, as well as exosomes from liquid biopsy samples like whole blood and plasma. LiquidScan® employs advanced microfluidics, immunoaffinity chemistries, and automation hardware to streamline the process, making it more accessible for precision medicine applications, including cancer diagnostics and prenatal testing. The LiquidScan® system integrates hardware and software modules that work in conjunction with Hamilton Microlab STAR and STARlet liquid handling robots. This setup allows for efficient sample processing through a secure-loop system, which facilitates the simultaneous dispensing and aspiration of liquid biopsy samples. The microfluidic chips used in the LiquidScan® system are specifically designed with antibody surfaces that target biomarkers of interest, enabling the isolation of specific cell types and exosome subpopulations. The heart of BioFluidica's CTC (Circulating Tumor Cells) system, is a highly efficient CTC capture bed, comprised of 50 to 500 sinusoidally-shaped channels. These channels are coated with antibodies, which isolate specific CTCs from whole blood.
